Kilcommon GAA Club History: From a Field With a Bull to County Champions in Mayo

Kilcommon GAA Club History starts in 1968 with no pitch, a borrowed field, a hill, a neighbour’s bull, and a spring for a shower. In this interview, Philip Irvin, JP, and Kieran Morton tell how Kilcommon / Glenmoy rebuilt the club, opened a pitch in 2000, changed the name back, won junior county titles in 2005, 2013 and 2024, and built one of the best rural clubhouses in Ireland — gym, running track, playground, astroturf, wheelchair access and four-team dressing rooms. Fundraising from New York, local sponsors, Leader, Mayo County Council and community land made it possible. A lasting story of Mayo GAA, parish teamwork, and what a small village can still do.
